Kyrie and his situation with the Brooklyn Nets

Irving signed with the Brooklyn Nets in the summer of 2019. He teamed up with Kevin Durant to try to form a dynasty in the Eastern Conference. But after three years, the association has not borne fruit for both the team and Kyrie. He was injured in the 19-20 season for some time before deciding not to suit up for the playoffs. In the 20-21 playoffs, Kyrie played the first three games against the Bucks before injuring his ankle, and thereby missing the rest of the playoffs.

Then in 21-22 due to off-court issues, he couldn’t play in half the games. He would eventually come back to play for the Nets, but it didn’t make any difference in the end. Boston Celtics swept the Nets in four games in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. As soon as the offseason started, rumors regarding Kyrie opting out of his player option and becoming a free agent started surfacing. The Los Angeles Lakers were one of the favorites to land him, but Kyrie then opted into his contract.

When Kyrie opted into his contract, the teams which could hypothetically trade for him reduced dramatically. During this time, Kevin Durant demanded a trade. But if Kyrie Irving now wants to stay with the Nets and play out this season, it may potentially change Kevin Durant’s view on demanding a trade.
