The highly anticipated matchup between the New York Liberty and the Washington Mystics exceeded all expectations. Fans witnessed an immediate classic on Sunday afternoon, with Sabrina Ionescu showing out in crunch time. The national ESPN broadcast amplified the excitement as both teams were contending for pivotal conference standings and the Commissioner’s Cup competition. Most of all, the centerpiece game between Elena Delle Donne of the Mystics and Breanna Stewart of the Liberty had fans hooked in the build-up to the contest.

Following their victory, Liberty’s head coach Sandra Anne Brondello accidentally exposed a detail of her private life, leaving fans swooning over the slip-up.

New York mounted an incredible comeback against the Washington Mystics, overturning a 17-point deficit to win it all in OT. While Elena Delle Donne was restricted to 15 points, Washington’s guards Ariel Atkins and Natasha Cloud put on outstanding games, tallying a combined 47 points. Sabrina Ionescu led the Liberty’s comeback with 31 points and six assists. No. 20 took over as the team’s main offensive engine after a slow start during which they shot just 3-for-17.

During the postgame interview, Coach Sandy was asked to comment on how the team has been making adjustments in-game to outsmart their opponents. She said, “Yea I know I said to my husband at half-time, walking back to the locker room..”

Both Ionescu and Vandersloot stopped in their tracks and looked at Coach. Ionescu said, “Who?”

Brondello continued, “My assistant coach..”

Ionescu revealed how she has never heard her call him that. Coach added, “No one knows it,” with a cheeky laugh.

Sandy Brondello and Olaf Lange met years ago in Germany. Brondello was actively playing and Lange was a promising assistant coach for the same team. They then coached side-by-side in San Antonio and later in Russia. Their bond strengthened further when Lange became an assistant coach for Brondello with the Australian national team. They’ve been married since 2005. Even though it wasn’t a secret, they’ve kept their marriage lowkey. Until now.

Of course, Twitter has taken off since the clip of her accidentally revealing her husband’s name went viral.

A fan could not believe what went down but shared their love for Coach Sandy’s iconic behavior.
