Cherelle Griner, wife of controversial WNBA star Brittney Griner has been a constant source of support for her wife. The two have been married since 2019 before initially meeting at Baylor University.
However, their relationship only started after Griner’s failed marriage with her ex-wife and fellow WNBA star Gloria Johnson. In her book, ‘In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court’, the now-jailed basketball star has talked about her relationship with Cherelle.

Talking about her first summer in the WNBA, Griner revealed that she shared an apartment with her future wife before Cherelle headed back to Baylor. Interestingly enough, while Brittney Griner loved big dogs, the same could not be said about Cherelle.
The Phoenix Mercury star wanted to adopt a pit bull. However, this wasn’t taken well by Cherelle who insisted they get a smaller dog to start things off.
After searching for a suitable dog online, Griner and Cherelle finally found their ideal pet. It was a mini schnauzer with a chocolate coat. Interestingly enough, WNBA legend Diana Taurasi was also a proud owner of a mini schnauzer with a somewhat surprising name.

The dog was named ‘Messi’ after the Argentine soccer star. Apparently, Taurasi is a huge soccer and Messi fan. Moreover, her father is Argentinian which explains Taurasi’s love for the Argentine superstar. Griner finally gifted Cherelle a mini schnauzer and named him ‘Dylan’ who was bought a couple of days before her birthday.

Officials are negotiating a prisoner swap deal for months now and it remains to be Griner’s last hope. Notorious Arms dealer Viktor Bout is the potential name linked to the swap deal. Along with Griner, former Marine Paul Whelan also stands a chance to go back to the United States of America if this deal works out.
