Brittney Griner once revealed in an interview the one good thing that happened to her after punching another player during a college game. As a matter of fact, the WNBA star had punched a Texas Tech player after a rough play during her stint with Baylor. In the interview, Brittney Griner also opened up about the impact of bullying in her life and the necessity of opening up.
As a 6’9″ center in the women’s circuit, it didn’t long for Griner to attract the attention of the country. In fact, she was hurled into stardom after being selected by Phoenix Mercury as the number one pick in the 2013 WNBA draft. But fame and recognition have their negative aspects as well.

As it turns out, Griner’s rare ability to dunk as a woman and dominate the court didn’t intrigue everybody. Some displayed more interest in her sexuality and outward appearance.

However, the Phoenix Mercury star admits that the incident benefitted her in a major way. In hindsight, Griner had to volunteer for counseling after the incident, which helped her profusely at that time.
“But a good thing came out of it,” the eight-time WNBA All-Star told the interviewer. “I had to go to counselling, which really helped me out.”
Griner’s struggle with bullying
During the interview, Griner revealed her struggles with bullying and harassment for her outward appearance. In other words, people often mistreated the WNBA phenom for not having the appearance of a typical woman. Her essentially male attire didn’t help her case much.

In addition, she has also received a lot of flak for her sexuality. While addressing childhood incidents of bullying and harassment, Griner stressed the importance of therapy.
In fact, she gave the following advice to somebody facing the same struggles as her. “Don’t be scared to get help. You’re definitely not alone,” said Griner. “Speak up. Don’t be silent.”
