The Los Angeles Lakers have fallen hard. It has been one of the worst seasons in their history. Even after making reinforcements last summer, nothing formulated as they had hoped for. The Lakers traded Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and Russell Westbrook in with the hope of using the abundance of experience the three veterans would bring.

Both Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard saw limited playing time. Melo started only 6 games out of the 68 appearances he made this season. Moreover, Dwight Howard merely played 27 games in his return to the Lakers. But the trade that hurt the Lakers the most was the trade of Russell Westbrook.

The move to bring Russell Westbrook to the Lakers was supported by LeBron James. LeBron influenced the decision of the trade. He wanted to bring Russ West because of the talent and experience the veteran he will bring along with him. LeBron was the major influence which finalized the big money deal to add Russell Westbrook in the roster. But it did not bear the fruit they hoped for and Russell Westbrook had one of the worst seasons of his career. This time the fans are not that excited about any trade rumors and understandably so.

The fans dust their hands off at the Lakers

Recent rumors and reports suggest that the Los Angeles Lakers are eyeing a move for former Bulls point guard, Mac McClung. Everything hints that the Lakers are willing to give him a two way NBA contract. McClung was seen in the training camp with the Lakers and has developed in their South Bay facility. McClung also won the G League Rookie of the Year.

Shams Charania, senior NBA Insider, writer, and analyst for The Athletic and Stadium, tweeted the reported trade for the off-season. Some fans have hopes from the 23 year old. However, some Lakers fans were not optimistic for the new season considering their last season’s trades failed miserably.

The fans were quick to recognize the similarities in the game between McClung and Alex Caruso who was there in the Lakers’ most recent championship-winning roster. Alex never got the chance to show his full potential due to limited playing time but he was athletic and full of energy in the team like he is in the Bulls now. 

The fans will only get to see how the team shapes up to build up next season. There will be changes and hopefully, for the fans, there will be a lot of them. The Lakers need to get back to the status the franchise has had in NBA history and for that to happen a lot of good decisions need to be taken.
