Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is facing the heat right now from different circles of the NBA world. A few days ago, he was suspended by the Grizzlies organization after flashing a gun on social media. This naturally prompted a heavy backlash from several media personalities, ex-players and talking heads. Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Skip Bayless are just some of the many names who bashed Morant for his actions. Recently, a former Los Angeles Lakers star has chimed in with a contradictory take, calling out Morant’s ‘older’ detractors.

Kwame Brown slams “older folks” for their criticism of Ja Morant

Over the past few weeks, Ja Morant has had little to no respite from the fans and the media. Although a majority of people are criticizing his actions, it seems like the 2021-22 season Most Improved Player finally has someone in his side. During one of his live streams, Kwame Brown sided with Morant and asserted that people should “let him get past his low moment and get back out there”.

Additionally, Brown also called out the ‘older folks’ for bashing Morant after having been through some major scandals themselves during their youth. He said, “Lets not forget Skip, you was in your hayday, you probably did all kinds of stuff. Remember older folks who are now 50, 60 and 70 years old, ya’ll went through the freedom of s*x, ya’ll went to s*x errors, ya’ll went through the hippie phase where ya’ll were smoking pot, ya’ll went through cocaine phases.”

“Like come on, show some grace to this younger generation. Let’s not act like y’all are just so perfect,” he added.

Brown’s criticism comes in the context of Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and other former players holding players of today to a standard they personally didn’t abide by in their days. Incidentally, Shaq indulged in alleged infidelity and Charles Barkley was an avid gambler in their heyday in the NBA.

Therefore, Brown questions the moral authority they have to hold Morant accountable. He also asserted that nobody is perfect and everyone has swayed at some point because of glory and success. Moreover, Brown pointed out that people are too keen nowadays to bring a black man down.

However, it seems they will be without him for some time. Coach Taylor Jenkins asserted that there is no timetable for the 2x All-Star. Jenkins also stressed how Morant needs to be accountable for the poor choices he made.
