The Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan had always been a tough taskmaster to his teammates. Multiple reports and even the legendary docu-series The Last Dance have depicted Jordan’s hard nature during the training sessions. MJ even made one of his Bulls teammate starve for a surprising reason. Notably, the legend has been a pioneer in philanthropic works and the donation of food to the needy in the hoops community.
Jordan reached the pinnacle of his popularity in the 1990s and took the game to a global audience. The media was all over him, and every reporter in the town was looking for an MJ scoop. The press constantly tried to break the good-guy image of Jordan and eventually, writer Sam Smith almost achieved it. Smith authored the book, The Jordan Rules, which criticized MJ in all possible ways. Recently, Smith again opened up on His Airness and his apparent treatment of his teammate.

In a recent podcast episode with Colin Cowherd, Sam Smith engaged in a candid conversation discussing Michael Jordan. This episode came ahead of the much-awaited MJ biopic, Air. Smith’s 1991 book gained a lot of popularity in the NBA world, as it was one of the few sources criticizing the Chicago Bulls great.
Recently, Smith called out MJ for his harsh treatment of his teammate Horace Grant. Smith said that MJ once starved Grant for playing badly. He quoted Jordan, “you know you don’t deserve to eat because you played bad.” Players occasionally have bad games. This raises the question whether MJ did this on a regular basis with all his teammates. Maybe we’ll get to know sometime down the line.

The 14x NBA All-Star had donated $2 million from ‘The Last Dance’ to local food banks in Chicago and the Carolinas. Jordan has always donated graciously and continues to do so. Probably the incident with Grant pushed him to take these steps later in his life.
