WNBA star Brittney Griner was arrested at an airport near Moscow in February since her luggage contained cannabis oil vape cartridges. She faces a prison sentence of up to 10 years. However, there have been talks between the US and Russia about a possible prisoner swap.

The other prisoner in question is a Russian arms dealer, Viktor Bout. He is currently serving a 25-year sentence in U.S. prison. Now, former President Donald Trump has suggested that the prisoner swap “doesn’t seem like a very good trade.”

“She knew you don’t go in there loaded up with drugs, and she admitted it,” Trump told the Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show. “I assume she admitted it without too much force because it is what it is, and it certainly doesn’t seem like a very good trade, does it? He’s absolutely one of the worst in the world, and he’s gonna be given his freedom because a potentially spoiled person goes into Russia loaded up with drugs.”

Former Trump Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, also suggested something similar. He said that Bout is a bad guy who wanted to kill Americans. Pompeo also said that it is a real risk for the nation. Pompeo said that it is not the right path and was worried that it might lead to more.

However, a lot of athletes over the past few months have voiced their support for the WNBA star. The Boston Celtics displayed their support for Griner during the NBA Finals. Notably, NBA superstar LeBron James has shown his support to Griner multiple times. The former MVP said that the Olympic gold medalist would be wondering whether the country has her back.
