Barkley opened up about the significant impact that Erving had on his career, highlighting the wisdom and guidance he received from the basketball icon.

Barkley received some valuable advice from his teammate, Dr. J, who told him that impressing everyone is impossible. One can’t do anything that everybody will agree on. Be yourself and don’t care about anyone else.

Barkley shared an incident where he said, “Hey, glad we won. God blessed us and blah blah blah. And then they’re like, ‘Hey, we need you to quit talking about God. We’re getting some complaints from those who don’t believe in God.’ Wait, what? That was like my first wake-up call.” Barkley realized that Dr. J was right all along, understanding that it’s impossible to please everyone and that not everyone will appreciate or agree with his actions.
