The tragic downfall of the Dallas Mavericks has left the NBA world in absolute shock. Earlier this season, they were the fourth seed in the West. Then they made the blockbuster trade, bringing in a generational scorer in Kyrie Irving to join forces with Luka Doncic. However, no one could predict that this tandem would win just four of their 15 games together. The 2011 NBA champions have fallen out of the play-in tournament with just three games remaining in their campaign. Amid all this, an NBA legend has attracted a lot of flak from fans after calling Luka Doncic a ‘crybaby’.

According to the 56-year-old, the Dallas star has become a crybaby due to the modern system residing in the NBA. He said, It’s our fault as a league that Luka has become a crybaby, there are a lot of people that are babies now, we made the league that way.”

To make matters worse, he called out the scoring tandem for not being leaders of the franchise. The Heat legend said Jalen Brunson, who the Mavericks traded to the New York Knicks, took on the role of being a leader. However, neither Kyrie Irving nor Doncic is up for that task in his eyes. In Hardaway Sr’s world, a leader is someone who leads by example. And he believes the Mavericks duo are merely dominant scorers with no ability to lead.

This comes from Doncic’s recent comments before facing the Sacramento Kings. The 24-year-old implied that the Dallas offense isn’t the real problem, but their lacking defense is the real hurdle. In a way, Doncic wasn’t wrong to say what he did. In the team’s recent 1-7 slip, the Mavericks had a defensive rating of 119.3, the 7th worst in the league. On the other hand, the Irving-Doncic duo helped the Mavs rank as the 14th-best offense.

With the current trend, Dallas is one game out of being the 10th seed. Not only will they have to win all their remaining three games, but the franchise will also have to hope the teams atop them drown.
