When the Denver Nuggets swept the Los Angeles Lakers, it was not the triumphant side or players who were in the spotlight. Rather, it was the vanquished Laker, LeBron James, who received the most attention. James made not-so-subtle remarks about his retirement during the post-game interview. Besides, the superstar told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin that he might contemplate retirement in the off-season. While LeBron’s retirement rumors still continue to take center stage, an NBA veteran revealed that he is skeptical about the entire saga.

James hinted at retirement shortly after a 40-point triple-double game. A Houston Rockets legend, however, has taken the Akron Hammer’s retirement rumors with a pinch of salt.

Smith has got reasons to doubt if LeBron will retire soon. He pointed out that James came up with a 40-point masterclass, shortly before his retirement talks spread like wildfire. Additionally, Kenny Smith also told that the Lakers have given Bron an offer he cannot easily refuse. He then shared his thoughts on the James-Lakers deal.

“You just signed a deal. You’re gonna leave another $150 million? Yes, he[LeBron] has a lot of money in his pocket. But you’re just gonna leave 150 million dollars on something you are great at. You are just gonna leave it? Because your team came up short? Not only short, you are still one of the best four teams in basketball,” said Smith. There are a few reasons, however, that may compel Lebron James to stay.

LeBron-Laker deal and other reasons why Kenny Smith thinks he will stay

LeBron James had signed a four-year $154 million deal with the Lakers when he joined LA in 2018. In 2022, the 4x-NBA champion re-signed a two-year $97.1 million deal with LA. Now, he has one season worth $46.7 million and a player option for the following season worth $50.4 million with the Lakers. In addition to this, Kenny Smith has got other reasons as well to believe that the LeBron era is not over yet.

The Jet thinks that LeBron is easily one of the top four players of the day. The Rockets icon said that James needs to get healthier and play more regular season games in the next season. By doing so, LeBron and LA, according to Smith, can gain more rhythm and be better poised for greater triumphs. The Jet’s confident claim on LeBron will indeed be a sigh of relief for a lot of basketball aficionados. Just like Smith, they too will be waiting to see a healthier King James doing his thing on the greatest stage.
