Apart from being one of the best players in the NBA and the player with the most points in history, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a very outspoken man. The Los Angeles Lakers legend never fails to talk about what he feels. Recently, he talked about an issue involving a high school coach and his praying habit.

The Supreme Court sided with the football coach, who prayed along with his players at the 50-yard line after games. In its decision, the court ruled that the school district had violated the constitutional rights of the coach, Joseph Kennedy, when it suspended his employment after he refused to stop praying on the field. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar addressed this issue in his article. Safe to say, he wasn’t happy as the Lakers legend bashed the coach and the Supreme Court.

Lakers legend gives his thoughts regarding controversial coach

Joseph Kennedy made headlines all around the world due to some controversial actions. The coach prayed with the kids in his team after matches and this wasn’t taken well by Kareem.

In an article, he criticized the coach as well as the Supreme Court. The reasoning behind his thoughts? Kareem believes that whenever the kids are indulged in such an activity, it becomes active missionary work.

Kareem wrote, “While I fully support his choice to pray as an individual, the moment you include the kids on the team, you’ve crossed the line from expressing your religion to active missionary work.”

Moreover, Abdul-Jabbar gave an example in the form of his coach during his time at UCLA. According to him, the coach was a devout Christian however; he refrained from activities such as these. 

Jabbar spent an important part of his life at UCLA. He quickly developed into one of the hottest prospects entering the NBA draft, and he averaged phenomenal numbers. In 3 seasons with the college team, Kareem averaged 26.4 points, and 15.5 rebounds while averaging 10.7 field goals per game.
