“Zion Is a Laker”: Pelicans’ Stern Step on Zion Williamson Makes NBA Twitter Go Wild With Speculations

Zion Williamson is now ready to return and play for the New Orleans Pelicans. Williamson has said that he is willing to sign a new max five-year contract with the team. But there are doubts within the franchise about the contract they are going to offer him. Zion has been injured for the whole season and as of yet, nobody knows whether he will be worth the $186 million dollars or not.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, this might just be what the front office of the Pelicans are thinking by not offering him his max contract. Now, whether he will stay or not is a big question.

New Orleans had a great run this season. Under coach Willie Green, they achieved 8th seed with players like Brandon Ingram, CJ McCollum and Jose Alvarado. The team took the first seed Phoenix Suns to the limit during the first round of the playoffs.The absence of Zion Williamson might have affected them against the Suns but their performances still won hearts of fans and the narrative driven media during this season.

Zion Williamson and his injury saga

Williamson suffered a fractured foot during the off season and underwent a surgery subsequently. Team officials shifted the dates of his return throughout the season. He was supposed to come back at the start of the season, then by mid October, then it became December.

During the month of December, officials stated that his injury was too slow to heal hence he would be taking more than four to six weeks off and would come back around the All Star break. After that period also passed, the team had to finally admit that he won’t play this season.

Zion not playing led to rumors of him leaving the Pelicans for greener pastures. But, he had rubbished those and mentioned that he was excited about playing next year for them.
