Warriors guard Stephen Curry and tennis ace Serena Williams have been friends for a long time now. As a matter of fact, they have shot multiple commercials together as well. Back in 2018, the 23-time Grand Slam champion faced the highly talked about controversy in the US Open finals against Naomi Osaka. Interestingly, Curry was one of the many people who stood up for Williams.

Aside from being a one-of-a-kind shooter, Stephen Curry has developed a sensational off-court brand for himself. He is also an extremely popular figure in the celebrity world. A 3-time NBA champion, he has been Golden State’s marquee player for years now.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams needs no introduction whatsoever. While a huge section of the media criticized Williams for her outrage, ‘Chef Steph’ certainly wasn’t one of them. In fact, he lauded the American for her grace and elegance.

In what was one of the most highly anticipated women’s finals, the queen Serena Williams took on the rising star Naomi Osaka in the US Open 2018 final. However, the brilliant encounter was overshadowed by a mid-match rant from Serena, against the chair umpire.

Following Osaka’s historic win, the tennis world lashed out at the former World No.1 for her on-court meltdown. Contrarily, Curry defended her, claiming that she handled it very well.

“The way Serena handled the situation, I think she handled it with such grace and class,” said the 8-time All-Star. “At the end of the day, I hope everybody understands and celebrates Naomi because she’s the U.S. Open champion and that’s pretty dope.”

During the game, Williams called umpire Carlos Ramos a ‘thief’ and told him that he owed her an apology. In an emotional post-match trophy ceremony, Serena consoled a crying Osaka amidst boos from the crowd.
