This has not been a great year for WNBA star Brittney Griner and her family. Griner was arrested in Russia and she has been in prison for over 200 days. Despite negotiations, there have not been any updates on her situation. Her wife, Cherelle Griner, spoke in an interview for the first time since her world came crashing down.
Griner was detained at the Moscow Airport after the authorities found vape cartridges with hashish oil in them. With the substance being illegal, Griner was subsequently arrested and put on trial. After months, a Russian court found her guilty, and they sentenced her to nine years in prison.

Her family has been doing everything they can to garner support for her. Her wife has been incredible in raising awareness and she recently met with President Joe Biden, who assured her that they are doing everything in their power to get her back.
Cherelle Griner says her wife Brittney Griner is a hostage
Cherelle recently has an interview at CBS Mornings with Gayle King and she opened up on her struggles over the past few months. She admitted that she is terrified about her wife’s fate.
She said, “It’s like a movie for me. I’m like, ‘In no world did I ever thought, you know, our president and a foreign nation president would be sitting down having to discuss the freedom of my wife.”

“And so to me, as much as everybody’s telling me a different definition of what B.G. is, it feels to me as if she’s a hostage,”

Cherelle exclaimed that she is scared when she thinks about what can happen to her wife. And she doesn’t know that she will ever get to see her again. Se even added that when she hears something new about the situation, she feels even more terrified.

The US Government has been going negotiating for months and there has been some progress in the situation. But there is still no news about when she will actually get out. Her wife is still hoping that she sees Griner back safe and sound. And she won’t stop working for it until she does.
