The Los Angeles Lakers can clinch the 2020 NBA title on Sunday night. They lead the series 3-2 and are still the favorites over the Miami Heat in the Finals.

However, if it weren’t for a huge mistake by guard Danny Green late in Game 5, we might not have needed this matchup. The Lakers were down by just 1 point and had plenty of time to draw a quality play, Coach Frank Vogel entrusted the ball to LeBron James for the final possession, who was on fire the entire game.

As expected, Bron delivered, drawing Heat defenders towards himself while driving towards the lane and kicked the ball out to a wide-open Green.

Maybe it was the pressure of the moment or the fact that DG has been inconsistent throughout the Playoffs. He missed the shot, and it was over like that, the Lakers lost the game to the Heat as they survived to fight another day.

Danny Green received a lot of heat over this blunder and recently revealed his thoughts regarding the play. “It was a good look, I had more time than I realized, should have taken more time, probably rushed it a little bit…

“I’d give anything to get that shot back again, trust me. You know you make some, you miss some, it’s part of the game. I have been in that situation plenty of times, I have made some and I have missed some…

“Any person that plays basketball knows it’s never only on one play.”

As Green said, these shots are part of the game, and sometimes it is not your day. However, if Green hadn’t rushed that shot, he might have drained the jumper and become a hero for taking the exact shot.

Right now, the Lakers need to focus on Game 6 and try to finish the task at hand: win the NBA Title.

The Miami Heat have all the momentum in the world right now. Their leader Jimmy Butler has been terrific in the Finals and is leading the pack by example. If Butler goes off in Game 6 as well and the Heat tie the series, the Lakers might be in trouble.

For the Lakers, LBJ had another one of his signature NBA Finals performances. He racked up 40 points while draining 6 three-pointers off of 8 attempts.

The purple and gold need more of the same from him to close out the series. But most importantly, the supporting cast of the Lakers needs to step up in the upcoming fixture.
