It’s been ten years since Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade tied the knot, and their love story is still going strong. Last September, the couple celebrated their 10th anniversary in the most heartfelt way. Wade, never one to shy away from showing love for his wife, gave an emotional tribute. “Thank you for continuing to show me that you ain’t going nowhere… That you’re willing to love me through shortcomings I’ve had and the moments of growth that I have…” he said. Union, with just a few words, made it clear how much it meant to her: “What you just said means everything.”

But while their love is rock solid, that doesn’t mean others don’t have a crush on them. And honestly, who could blame them? Wade is a Hall of Famer with an undeniable presence, while Union is a Hollywood icon who has been turning heads for years. Add their impeccable fashion sense to the mix, and it’s no surprise that both of them have admirers everywhere.

Recently, one of those admirers stepped into the spotlight. On Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, 43-year-old actor Jay Ellis confessed that Gabrielle Union has been his longtime celebrity crush. But here’s the kicker—he only admitted it after Union herself playfully nudged him into it.

“I walked up to Gabrielle. I mean, what am I supposed to say here?” Ellis hesitated. Union, clearly enjoying the moment, teased him with a smirk, “No pressure, no pressure.” That’s when Ellis finally gave in, adding, “Please don’t tell Dwyane Wade.”

What makes this even more interesting is that Ellis and Union go way back—like way back. As he revealed on the same show, they first met when he was just 12 years old at the American Pie premiere. That’s right—before the fame, before the accolades, before Ellis ever had to worry about catching Wade’s attention.

A sweet, funny moment from years ago—nothing to worry about, right? Well, maybe. Because if there’s one thing we do know, it’s that Wade has been jealous before—especially over one of Union’s past roles.

Dwyane Wade got jealous over Gabrielle Union’s role

During an interview on Sherri’s YouTube channel, Gabrielle Union didn’t hold back when asked about her favorite part of playing Mary Jane. She absolutely loved the character. “Oh, all the things you want to say in real life, but it’s too mean. She got to say them all. She got to say it,” Union said.

But Dwyane Wade had some reservations. Turns out, there was one particular aspect of the show that didn’t sit well with him. “And she got to have like a big s– life. My husband, he didn’t like that part as much,” she admitted. Clearly, watching his wife portray such an intense romantic life on-screen wasn’t exactly Wade’s favorite part of the show.

Still, for Union, that was what made the show stand out. “It was such a s–y show. Black women got to be complex, and you got to see black love in all its incarnations.” It wasn’t just about relationships—it was about representation, depth, and breaking stereotypes.

At the end of the day, though, their bond is solid. Union once described their relationship as “a very long sleepover with your best friend.” So, even if Being Mary Jane made Wade a little uncomfortable, there’s no doubt he’s got her back—just like she’s got his.
