We all know MJ and his instrumental work in putting the Chicago Bulls on the map. But before him, it was Robert Earl Love, a rugged defender and a tenacious scorer. ‘Bob’ Love, as he was affectionately called, was also the top scorer for the Bulls before Michael Jordan took that record. Interestingly, to date, he has the record, as no other player has been able to contest him for that. However, a current star has his eyes set on another record after his recent performance.

Zach LaVine scored a team-high 35 points, and it was his 109th 30-point game as a Bull. This means he has joined Bob Love for second most in franchise history. But it’s miles away from Michael Jordan and his record of 537 games. It was against the Clippers when the 2x All-Star achieved the feat where he had 5 three-pointers and 3 rebounds. It was also his seventh 30-point game in the last 11 games. Talk about resurgence!

Former NBA player Kendall Gill compared LaVine’s demeanor and performance to that of Michael Jordan. “He is on a MJ run. He’s scored a lot of these points in crunch time. It seems to me Zach is on a mission. I don’t know what mission it is, because we haven’t had the opportunity to talk to him and really get into depth about what he wants to achieve this season – but it’s that look in his eye man.”

This year the Washington native is averaging 24.0 points per game, after just 19.5 last season. It was a shocker and for the first time in 5 years, his scoring average dropped below 20 points. The improved number has been because of his career-high 51.4% from the field and a career-high 45% from beyond the arc. Indeed, on a run like His Airness himself.

The 2x All-Star broke a Michael Jordan record just a few days ago

Before this 11-game streak where he dropped 30+ points 7 times, he only had six 30-plus points games until then. However, they occupy the 10th spot with a 19-25 record, behind the Pistons’ 22-21 record. 10 days ago against the Kings, the 29-year-old achieved something that even Bob Love wasn’t able to do.

With his 36 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal, and 5 made threes, he became the first Chicago player to tally that line in a game more than once. As per Basketball Reference’s StatHead, Michael Jordan and Nikola Vučević are the only other Bulls players to do it at all.

At one point, LaVine was in trade talks for another franchise. Some of them even expressed regret after his recent explosion. But the 6 foot 5 star is being humble about his achievements.

After tying the record with Love, LaVine said, “Bob Love was great, has his jersey retired.” While speaking to the Chicago Sports Network, he also mentioned the greatness of Michael Jordan. “See, the guy wasn’t real. It’s good to be second to him. It’s damn near like you at first somethings.” With his focus on making sure his team makes it to the postseason, and hopefully a berth in the All-Star Game for himself.
