Undoubtedly the world of sports has seen some of the best friendships. One of the most legendary of them would be the friendship of NBA’s GOAT, Michael Jordan, and Golf legend Tiger Woods. The duo has maintained an abiding friendship off their playing arena. Back in 2009, Woods was at the lowest point of his life. And years later, when he had won his 15 major and the first in 11 years, his long-time friend called him the “greatest” of all.

From golf games to social gatherings, the two friends have ruled the world for quite some time. The duo was often spotted hanging out together. Woods has often mentioned Jordan as the most influential and inspiring person in his life. And when he pulled through the toughest time of his life, MJ again presented him with adulation.

Why did Michael Jordan choose Tiger Woods over Brooks Koepka?

Following an accident and several personal issues in 2009, the star golfer was facing the most difficult time of his life. His injuries and severe physical conditions were not allowing him to give his best. He was struggling both mentally and physically.

Many including Jordan had their doubts whether Woods could ever get back on the golf’s biggest stages. In a conversation with ESPN, Jordan had said, “The thing is, I love him so much that I can’t tell him, “You’re not gonna be great again.”

Three years before the LIV Golf’s inception, the star golfer proved everyone wrong. Much to fans’ delight, he won his 15 major championship and fifth Green Jacket.

During a conversation with The Athletic, Jordan expressed his happiness over Woods’ win and said, “You’re going against guys who are more gifted physically. But your advantage is mental. You have so many things you can draw upon, and the other guys don’t have the same. They don’t have the experience. You think about Molinari hitting it in the water on 12, Finau hitting in the water, Brooks [Koepka] hitting in the water on 12. Mentally, [Woods] had to sustain it. From then on it was him trying to figure it out.”

How did Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods become friends?

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Woods said that his friendship with Michael Jordan began because of his Nike deal, according to Golf.com. He had always praised Jordan and spoke glowingly about their friendship. Although his fascination with the NBA’s GOAT could be traced back to the time when he was just fourteen. Speaking with the Trans World Sport, he said, “I might be sort of like a Michael Jordan in basketball, or something like that.”
