Most people can only imagine this scenario. Magic Johnson sailing across Europe, wrapped a fun week in Greece, worked out on the deck of his $7 million yacht, had dinner with his wife in Capri, Italy, and kept up with the happenings in LA. The Lakers are making free agency moves, and the Lakers legend reacted. But it’s what’s happening in Dodgers nation that stole his attention from the majestic beauty of the Italian shores.
The Dodgers are up against the Chicago White Sox (as of this writing, the Dodgers are behind 2-4 in the 8th), but the big moment came early. Clayton Kershaw just made history with a very LeBron-esque record. He hit his 3,000th career strikeout during the Los Angeles Dodgers-Chicago White Sox game in Los Angeles.
As soon as Johnson heard the news, the Dodgers co-owner did what he always does and hopped on X. “Congratulations to @ClaytonKersh22 for reaching 3,000 career strikeouts with our @Dodgers !👏🏾” he wrote.

Kershaw came into this game only three strikeouts away from becoming the 20th pitcher in MLB history to make that record. He first got Miguel Vargas, his ex-teammate, in the third inning, and then got Lenyn Sosa for the final out of the fifth. He hit the record in the sixth as he struck out Vinny Capra with a slider 85.3-mph pitch.

The Dodgers stadium was in celebratory uproar at the 3000th strikeout. Kershaw got a standing ovation from the crowd. Even on vacation, Magic is never out of Dodgers Nation, and his reaction shows. The record goes deeper than that. The team revealed, “Kershaw is now only the third pitcher to strike out 3,000 batters while playing for just one team, joining Walter Johnson (Washington Senators) and Bob Gibson (St. Louis Cardinals). Nolan Ryan is the all-time strikeout leader at 5,714.”
He’s also only the fourth left-hander to do it. It was Kershaw’s 100th and final pitch of the night – the first time he’d registered 100 pitches in a start since 2023. He went six innings and allowed four runs, all earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts and a walk. We’re yet to hear Kershaw’s thoughts after this achievement. And maybe he’d have something to say to the Dodgers’ boss in Capri.

Magic Johnson is keeping an eye on Los Angeles
Earvin “Magic” Johnson showed he’s not the type to go unplugged on vacation. After his trip to Croatia, he shared the updates from his yacht’s stop in Greece. Magic and his wife, Cookie, hosted a toga party on their vessel for their celebrity friends, and Cookie had girls’ day out in Corfu.
Within a few hours after their last day in Greece, Magic and Cookie already had a new update. The billionaire had arrived in Capri and posted his date night with Cookie while the Dodgers game was on back home.

Johnson kept an eye on his teams back home during it all. The Sparks co-owner first reacted to the WNBA’s announcement of expansion teams. He was then ecstatic about the Lakers finally getting a center in Deandre Ayton (the Lakers’ lack of center and defense caused Magic a lot of sleepless nights in the past season).
Yet while the Lakers‘ news didn’t get one of the typical Magic welcome speeches, Kershaw’s accomplishment made him use that keyboard. We anticipate a bigger celebration when the boss is back in LA. However, the outcome of the game, as the Dodgers are still trailing 3-4, might dampen his mood.
