Dwyane Wade cemented himself in Miami folklore during his two stints with the Heat. Winning 3 championships, the 13x All-Star formed formidable partnerships in Vice City as he won NBA titles in two different decades. First tasting glory alongside NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal in 2006, Wade went on to create the greatest trio in recent memory along with LeBron James and Chris Bosh. While a huge success on the court Wade struggled with various issues off it. Engulfed in various controversies including an acrimonious divorce with his ex-wife, the Flash has had it tough. Although successful post-retirement in his business ventures, Wade continues to fight personal battles on a daily basis. Although known for his marriage to American reality tv star Gabrielle Union, the former AGT judge wasn’t Wade’s only spouse. Marrying his high school sweetheart Siohvaughn Funches in 2002, the couple spent 5 years together before splitting in 2007. A vitriolic court battle saw the pair divorce in 2010 as D-Wade was granted sole custody of their 2 kids in 2011. The decision was a huge win for the 3x champion as he was reunited with his sons after being denied that privilege by his ex-wife.

Wade wards off backlash aimed at his 16-year daughter

Having previously battled his ex-wife for his children’s custody 12 years ago, Wade continues to be vocal for his children today. Facing severe backlash for his 16-year-old trans daughter’s advocacy towards her gender. The Chicago native is an avid supporter of her cause as he continues to speak out for her in public.

Recently stating that he had to take therapy classes with his children during his court battles. Wade revealed that he learned about the importance of empowering his children. Speaking about it on the Parents website, the Miami icon stated, “My daughter can walk down a runway in Paris for the first time with all the confidence in the world because we’ve been cheering for her.

Staying true to his words, Dwyane Wade has certainly ensured that he remains “a father in his kids’ lives.
