The Boston Celtics are one of the favorites to win it all this year. Despite letting go of core players like Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams and Marcus Smart, a few blockbuster trades have helped the Eastern Conference team find a balance. However, the fans were skeptical about the new roster as they doubted a lack of defense. Well, guess they need not worry because former Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday is here for the rescue. With that on one side, a special former member of the Celtics franchise decided to join the team in their first practice.

Videos of the 2008 NBA champion bringing back his game are going viral on the internet. However, why did he drop in all of a sudden? Let’s take a look.

The $4 billion Celtics have taken a few crucial steps this season to complete their road to a championship. Trading Marcus Smart was a surprise but now they have Jrue Holiday as a replacement. Nonetheless, coach Joe Mazzulla has made a few unexpected moves to give his team the edge needed to get over that Finals hump.

Can Holiday bring the same energy as Smart did? Well, considering the news from the Celtics’ first practice, it’s safe to say that they are more than happy with Holiday on their team. According to ESPN, the defensive guard brought ‘electricity’ and was on a scoring spree.

Coming back to the ‘unexpected moves’ mentioned above, Mazzulla’s efforts to create a better environment for his players must be credited. As per reports, the 35-year-old head coach sent a mail to former Celtics stars and legends, asking them to join the practice.

This is to build an environment where “the legends and past players come frequently”. The first Celtics legend to join the practice was none other than Paul Pierce.

Paul Pierce returns to Celtics’ practice

The 45-year-old legend will be seen a bit more frequently considering his love for the franchise and for the game as well.

During yesterday’s practice, The Truth was seen taking shots from behind the arc. While he has worked closely with Jayson Tatum on numerous occasions, it might be motivating to practice with the last Celtics players to win the title. Particularly Paul Pierce, who was the Finals MVP during the Celtics’ 2008 run.

Well, looks like Pierce still has the game with him. However this time, he will mostly be a mentor. This step from Mazzula can be a game changer if more former veterans join the practice a bit frequently. Tips from the masters of the game can indeed be helpful.
