“Make no mistake about it… I want Shannon Sharpe on First Take. And I aim to get him. We are definitely talking to Shannon Sharpe – the conversations are official. I am hopeful, very hopeful and very confident that he will be on First Take.”

Sharpe’s possible transfer to First Take carries significant weight because of his successful partnership with Skip Bayless on the rival show UNDISPUTED on FOX Sports. The program was a smashing success because of the evident connection between the two leads.

Sharpe’s exit from UNDISPUTED earlier this year made him a free agent, prompting rumors that he would team up with Stephen A. Smith. The public is waiting with anticipation for further details about the future of ESPN’s legendary sports talk show.

The recent ESPN layoffs were also addressed by Stephen A. Smith on his show.

Smith said he cared for the people affected emotionally by the layoffs but stressed the practicality of the choice. While sympathizing with those affected and wishing them well, he stated that ESPN’s massive financial losses, amounting to $5.5 billion, called for the layoffs.

“As sad as I’m, as wishful I am that every single of those folks land on their feet and ultimately recapture a prosperous career (like) that (which) they had on ESPN, I’d like to remind everybody they are casualties of a layoff because ESPN lost $5.5 billion, the parks, and the theaters.”
