He may be ‘Sir Charles’ or ‘The Incredible Bulk’ in basketball, but turns out Charles Barkley is a sweet ‘Big Pop’ at his home. This is a nickname Chuck earned after he became a grandparent to his only daughter, Christiana Barkley‘s kids. And although he has really enjoyed this role, as he claims, there’s some struggle he has been facing recently. 

Appearing in David Letterman’s Netflix series, Barkley lets the audience into his life as a grandpa. “Outta all the stuff that’s happening in my life, little Henry and little Charlie, being a grandpa is the greatest thing. Well, we’re also talking about three months ago. Then he learned how to walk… and all hell broke loose,” said Barkley on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. The 11x All-Star mentioned that now that his grandkid has learned to walk, his usual routine has been disrupted. This usual routine included Chuck having Henry lay on his arm while he had a beer in his other hand. 

“And I’d kiss him like every 15 seconds. And then like 6 months ago, he learned how to walk and run, and he won’t stay still for anything in the damn world,” the former Philadelphia 76ers star added. Charles Barkley further stated now he has to build his whole day around naps. The reason is his age, where people take a nap any time they eat or play for an extended time. 

Notably, Barkley and his wife, Maureen Blumhardt, welcomed their only child, Christiana Barkley, in 1989. Interestingly, the couple named their daughter after the Christiana Mall in Delaware, which Blumhardt once frequented.

After attending Villanova University from 2007 to 2011, Christiana later completed her Masters in Journalism in 2017 from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. As per the reports, she later utilized her writing skills to help students grab their dream schools. According to The New York Times in 2021, she was Koppelman Group’s director of writing and senior account manager.

As for her personal life, the 35-year-old got married to her longtime boyfriend Ilya Hoffman, who is the founder of Demandbyte. After receiving Barkley’s blessing, the couple eventually tied the knot in 2021 at the Andaz Scottsdale Resort and Bungalows.

The couple welcomed their first child — their son Henry — within one year of their marriage, in 2022. “It’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me in my life,” Charles Barkley said back then. This came during an interview with Golf Channel during the 2022 American Century Championship. Within another year, Chuck’s daughter brought her second child into this world — her daughter Charlie Eliza. Notably, Charlie has been named after Charles himself, and the 61-year-old is now ‘Big Pop’ to his two grandkids.
