Gabrielle Union is making sure her friend is being heard. Dwyane Wade and his wife are passionate about social justice, and never shy away from supporting causes they feel strongly about. When Taraji P. Henson utilized her platform to highlight a real problem, Hollywood rallied behind her. Gabrielle Union is one of the biggest stars in her corner.

The incident happened during the press events for Henson’s latest movie, The Color Purple. In an emotional interview, she opened a discussion on the pay inequality she’s experienced throughout her career as a black woman.

Union shared the clip of TPH’s speech on her Instagram Stories with an addition of her own. “Watch the whole thing. And then consider all the battles before, during and after to be seen, heard, protected and promoted for the work.

Amid sharing the Wade family’s wholesome Christmas celebrations, Union added her voice to the discussion of pay disparity. “Merry Christmas from A Black Actress/Producer In Hollywood,” she wrote on an Instagram post.

She packed the sarcasm into her speech while skipping across a lawn. “I’m a Black actress and producer in Hollywood. Of course, I’ve been mistaken for Garcelle [Beauvais], Brandy, Ashanti, Sanaa [Lathan], Nia [Long], both Halles [Berry, Bailey] and both Reginas [Hall, King],” she said, adding, “Of course, our box office successes never matter.”

She even got her entourage on the video to speak about having to include them on her contract to ensure they get paid too. She also said she’d be working till “the end” because she doesn’t earn as much as some others in Hollywood.
