Page 3 news has suddenly got a new name to talk about. Tawanna Turner. All thanks to NBA icon Allen Iverson, who just revealed that he’s back with his ex-wife after 12 long years of divorce. The story may sound cliché, but it’s as real and beautiful as it gets. What truly matters is how Iverson managed to fix what was once “misunderstood” between them—the same word that titles his memoir. But Iverson also revealed something much deeper, that his time apart from Tawanna forced him to truly look in the mirror.

On The Breakfast Club podcast, Iverson got brutally honest about what he went through during the split.

“I was selfishly thinking about my demise because I know, um, in my heart and in my mind that I can’t live without her,” he said. “I took her love for me for granted… I felt like she would never go nowhere. Like, this is all I’ve known. This is the only love that I’ve ever known… I’ve never loved someone like this in my life.” He paused before admitting what most people never say out loud: “And a lot of times, you know, all women would say or even guys, you know, anybody that’s, you know, logical about anything—how you love us so much and you do the things. Yeah. And I don’t have an answer for.”

It’s been more than ten years since Allen Iverson and Tawanna Turner went their separate ways, but somehow, their story still feels unfinished. Their marriage officially ended in 2013 after years of ups, downs, and public chaos. One scene from that time still stands out. In 2012, during a tense court hearing, a frustrated Iverson, weighed down by financial troubles, blurted out, “I don’t even have money for a cheeseburger!”

And before anyone could react, Tawanna quietly pulled out $61 from her purse and handed it to him. And maybe that one gesture brought Allen back to reality. Of their marriage. They’d been together since high school in Virginia, long before the fame, the NBA spotlight, and the chaos that came with it. But fame doesn’t always mean forever.

Tawanna first filed for divorce in 2009, though Iverson convinced her to give things another chance. Sadly, the old problems never really disappeared. By 2011, with tension high and bills piling up, she decided to walk away for good. Two years later, in 2013, the divorce was finalized; Iverson agreed to pay a $3 million settlement and child support and provide for their five children.

“It was self-inflicted, but Tawanna divorcing me, that’s when I knew I had hit my lowest point and it was time for some deep self-reevaluation,” Allen Iverson admitted on First Take. That moment became his wake-up call, pushing him to confront his mistakes and grow. Even after everything, Iverson never forgot what Tawanna meant to him. During his 2016 Hall of Fame speech, he called her his rock—the one who loved and cared for him through every storm, setting an example for their five kids: Tiaura, Allen II, Isaiah, Messiah, and Dream.

Allen Iverson is a “boyfriend” now!

Allen Iverson recently opened up about his relationship with Tawanna Turner, and he was clear about one thing: he’s not jumping back into the “husband” label just yet. “I’m a boyfriend. I want this point to be made,” he said, reflecting on how they’ve rekindled their love post-separation.

Allen admitted that for years, he had been out of control: drinking, partying, and making choices that put his marriage in jeopardy. “And this threat was there for years. For years and years and years… like the boy cried wolf… and then it was like she got to the point… I gotta show him I’m serious. That’s what happened,” he explained.

Sitting in court during the divorce proceedings was unlike anything else he had experienced. “I’m looking at Iverson versus Iverson, you know what I mean? And like, yo, s—— is real, you know what I mean?” he said. During the separation, the media added fuel to the fire with rumors, including allegations of infidelity, though Tawanna later clarified her divorce had nothing to do with that.

Allen admitted that his partying, drinking, and lavish spending were at the heart of their problems. Despite earning over $154 million in his NBA career, plus millions more in endorsements, Allen struggled financially, even filing for bankruptcy two years after retiring because of unpaid debts. Part of the strain came from a sense of duty to his extended family, who helped raise him while his father was absent; he felt responsible for caring for them as well. All these pressures, combined with marital tension, eventually led Tawanna to file for divorce.

But now, life is looking very different for Iverson. He’s been sober for six months, with Tawanna by his side as his girlfriend and constant support. He has his Reebok fund trust set to mature in five years, a memoir out in the world, and a new perspective on life.
