Former teammates Jrue Holiday and JJ Redick enjoyed a fun moment before the Boston Celtics‘ NBA In-Season Tournament game against the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics guard jokingly tried to get the now-retired shooting guard to come out of retirement. Recognizing Redick’s sharp appearance in a suit and tie, Holiday joked that he’d rather see him in a jersey on the court.

JJ Redick, the three-point specialist, averaged 3.5 points, 0.8 assists, and 0.6 rebounds in his final 10 career games. But given the right situation, Jrue Holiday believes JJ can still provide a major impact.

JJ Redick is currently working as an ESPN on-air sports analyst. He last played in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks during the 2020–21 season, finishing his career with incredible figures. Jrue Holiday and Redick were on the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2019–20 season before Jrue went on to the Milwaukee Bucks and earned a championship there.

Redick and Holiday had a strong friendship in New Orleans, with Redick even admitting that Holiday was a key component of his choice to sign with the Pelicans that year.

“In conversations leading up to free agency, you know, I wanted to play with Jrue Holiday. I reached out to him and had a couple convos with him… He was a big part of me going down to New Orleans,” Redick reportedly said of his move then.

Last night, Holiday made fun of the former NBA sharpshooter’s coat and tie, saying he’d rather see him in his jersey and playing. JJ couldn’t keep his emotions in check and said, “It’s a bit, it’s a bit, I love you, I love you bud, I miss you bud.” Holiday responded, “I miss you too bro…You look good in a suit but you look better in a jersey.”

Holiday is an incredible leader who is clearly at his peak while playing for the Celtics. But he seems to want JJ Redick in the corner for catch and shoot threes. Over his last 10 games, Redick achieved a split of 100% from deep on two separate occasions. Though his minutes were sparse in 2021, the Duke legend proved one last time that he can shoot the ball with the best of them.

Of course, Redick has made it clear that he prefers swinging a golf club these days. But that didn’t stop Holiday from trying his luck.

After the game, Jrue Holiday walked to the 8-year-old son of JJ Redick and sarcastically said, “You gotta start passing to your daddy; I can’t shoot, okay?”

Now with the Celtics, the one-time NBA champion is perceived as instilling a winning mentality in a squad that has been a consistent challenger in recent years. In his final season with the Milwaukee bUCKS, Holiday averaged 19.3 points, 7.4 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals.

Paul Pierce, the Boston Celtics legend, feels Jrue Holiday might be the missing piece in the team’s pursuit of its 18th NBA title.
