Display of emotions is common in sports, but it seems a severely criticized athlete lacks the luxury of it. Angel Reese recently received harsh remarks by Fox Sports analyst Emmanuel Acho for shedding tears during a press conference. Notably, Reese got emotional while responding to the hate she has been receiving and how she has still carries herself. “You can’t beat a big bad wolf, but then kind of  cry like courage the cowardly dog,” said Emmanuel Acho previously. However, ex-NBA star Matt Barnes feels that Emmanuel is being unfair to the LSU star.

“Everybody’s emotional. She (Angel Reese) just plays with on her sleeve, similar to Draymond Green,” he stated in a video shared by ‘All The Smoke’. Notably, Draymond has been known in the NBA community for his competitive spirit, passion, fiery attitude and his aggression. And Barnes believes that all of this does not make a player a villain. So he has expressed his firm disagreement with Acho about the entire issue. He believes it is the media who portray Reese in a different light.

“The media made Angel Reese the villain, just like they made Caitlin Clark the America’s sweetheart. I don’t think Angel Reese said, hey, I want to be the villain. I think she ran with the title, and as a former villain, I know how that goes,” Matt stated.

Barnes further spotlighted how the LSU star even found a way to use the criticism against her to advantage. But the fact many have an issue with her crying is just weird to Matt. The 2017 NBA champion further emphasized in Reese’s defense that it was her last college season and she had a great run at the LSU, so she was bound to get emotional.

What does the future hold for Angel Reese?

The LSU Tigers star has already announced her decision to move on to the WNBA. And the general managers and scouts are of the view that 21-year-old has both an upside and a downside to her. Notably, Reese will turn 22 on May 6, which is the required minimum age for the WNBA.

“She just has a relentless competitive spirit… She was impacting the winning. There’s a lot there, and I think she’s definitely a WNBA athlete,” one WNBA evaluator said, as per ESPN. Meanwhile, a WNBA general manager believes Reese to be deadly in the paint and effective even when she’s got a bigger player on her because of her athleticism and her quickness. “She doesn’t mind getting hit. She can get hit and finish with two people hanging on her,” the general manager stated.

And Reese too is looking forward to her WNBA future, where she’ll be working with grown women, as she told Vogue. “I’ll be working with women that have kids, women that have a family to feed. I’m going to have to work my butt off every single day and grind. And who wouldn’t want that? I don’t want anything in my life to be easy,” Reese Stated.
