Shaquille O’Neal just proved once again why he’s more than just a basketball legend—he’s got a heart of gold. Back in 1992, Shaq left school early to enter the NBA Draft, and well… the rest is history. But what truly stands out? Eight years later, he returned to LSU to finish his degree—a promise he made to his mother.

He’s always understood that education is power, and he’s never stopped trying to elevate others through it. Now, while his massive Vegas project is in the works, Shaq is still finding ways to give back—this time, with yet another meaningful gesture.

In association with the Public Education Foundation (PEF), The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation prepared 24 “Classroom in a Box” supplies for the Communities In Schools of Southern Nevada (CIS). The Big Aristotle is also a member of the CIS national board of directors. Each box is priced at $500, totaling $12,000.

Speaking of the initiative, Debbie Palacios, Executive Director of Communities In Schools of Southern Nevada said, “We are so grateful for partners like the Shaquille O’Neal Foundation and the Public Education Foundation, who are proof of the positive differences we can make when working together to serve our children.”

Each box contains enough materials for 30 students and is distributed to four Clark County School District schools, Manuel J. Cortez Elementary School, Ruben P. Diaz Elementary School, Ann Lynch Elementary School, and Mario C. & Joanne Monaco Middle School. These boxes are also signed by O’Neal.

The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation continues to make a difference, and Dr. Lisa Morris Hibbler, the foundation’s Executive Director, summed it up perfectly:

“At The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation, we believe every child deserves the tools they need to succeed in the classroom. We’re proud to partner on this project to ensure students are fully equipped for the second semester, empowering them to focus on learning, growing, and reaching their full potential.”

But that’s not all. According to reports, Shaq’s foundation is also working on a youth facility designed to support both Communities In Schools (CIS) and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. The project is expected to be completed by late 2026, further cementing Shaq’s impact beyond the game.

Shaquille O’Neal’s Las Vegas Project gets green light

O’Neal has a great connection with Las Vegas. He had launched his Big Chicken in the city and even wishes to own an NBA team based in Las Vegas. Expanding on this bond, the foundation had plans to build a 31,123-square-foot facility.

The county had earlier donated nearly 4.81 acres of land, situated at the northeast corner of Lamb Boulevard and Kell Lane in Las Vegas, to The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation. While the project was awaiting approval on February 19, it finally got the green light from the commission.

The facility which is yet in the process will be named the Shaquille O’Neal Youth Development Complex. As per sources, it will offer academic, social, and recreational resources for K-12 youth. The Los Angeles Lakers legend’s foundation is working closely with the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada on the project, which will cost nearly $24 million. This new facility will bring new hopes and changes to the community.
