When the NBA Top 75 list was first announced on October 19-21 of 2021, Dwight Howard’ snub was highly criticised by many, including the former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy.

Drafted as the No.1 pick in the 2004 NBA draft, Dwight Howard is an 8x NBA All-Star, 3x NBA Defensive player of the year and an Olympic Gold medalist, and is widely regarded as one of the most successful big men in the league. In a recent podcast episode, a 7x NBA champion voices his opinion regarding the controversial snub.

Stan Van Gundy had said in an interview, “You cannot make an argument that Anthony Davis has had a better career than Dwight Howard. That’s absolutely ridiculous!“. In a recent podcast episode of “Big Shot Bob“, 7x NBA champion Robert Horry backs Stan Van Gundy as he says that the only reason Howard did not make the list is because of “politics“.

Horry, “Dwight Howard has three Defensive Player of the Year awards and was so dominant on one end of the court for a very long time.“. He further adds, “Another thing, outside the ‘back issue’ he was available. He played every single game!“. The former NBA player states that Davis has undeniable basketball talent, but there are always be questions regarding Anthony Davis‘ availability.

The former NBA veteran says, “The best ability is what? Availability! That’s not something you never had to worry about with Dwight Howard.“. The members of the podcast add, “We are not trying to disrespect Anthony Davis,” as they side with the 7x NBA champion’s opinion as well.

The 8x NBA All-Star shares his disappointment regarding the snub in an interview with ‘Sports illustrated’, “I was very surprised that I wasn’t put on the list. When I saw that I wasn’t on the list, I was really upset. I really was just wanting to say, do I even want to play basketball no more?“.

He further adds, “Like, what am I playing for? I’ve did all this stuff, I’ve accomplished all these things, I feel like I’ve been a great ambassador for the NBA and the game globally. I feel like that was just the disrespect, total disrespect.
