Shaquille O’Neal once said, “If I’m somewhere and see somebody’s needing something, I’ll take care of it.” But just because your mom is friends with Shaq doesn’t mean you can slide into a job with him that easily. Comedian and actress Ms. Pat’s son found that out the hard way when he made a bold request for employment—only to get a dose of tough love from his mom.
Ms. Pat joined Shaquille O’Neal on The Big Podcast for a hilarious and revealing chat. Known for her no-nonsense humor, the 52-year-old actress didn’t hold back as she roasted Shaq and shared stories from her life. One of the standout moments? Ms. Pat recalled how her son reacted to the news that she’d be meeting the NBA legend.
“I told him I’m going to the Shaq house today. And my son, who lazy, said, ”ell Shaq to give me a job,'” she revealed. But Ms. Pat wasn’t having it. “I said, I won’t give you a job. I look like asking Shaq to give you a job?” she continued. The irony is rich—Ms. Pat herself has a $2 million net worth, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Still, if Ms. Pat had asked Shaq for a favor, there’s a good chance he would’ve helped. O’Neal is well-known for his acts of kindness, like buying a fan an engagement ring or gifting a stranger a laptop. These moments rarely come from a need for recognition; they’re just part of who he is.
“A lot of people describe it as giving back. I describe it as doing what you’re supposed to do. You’re supposed to help those in need,” Shaq once told PEOPLE. Clearly, Shaq’s generosity knows no bounds, and he is on a mission to spread smiles.

Shaquille O’Neal is out on a mission
“So I take pride in each and every day by just making one person smile, whether it’s one person or whether it’s a hundred people or whether it’s a thousand people,” Shaquille O’Neal once said. Since retiring in 2011, the four-time NBA champion has traded slam dunks for endorsement deals, sponsorships, and entrepreneurial ventures, all with a focus on helping those in need.
Even when life gets tough, Shaq sticks to a simple motto: “It could be worse.” He shared, “A lot of people are going through a lot of tough times. I want to be the guy to make them smile. Because for me, when I smile, things start to break down and I start to get back on track. I just want to help people get back on track.” That drive to uplift others is what fuels much of his charitable work.
Take his Shaq-a-Roni pizza, for instance. As a Papa John’s board member, Shaq crafted the 16-inch pizza to raise money for communities in need. For every Shaq-a-Roni sold until Oct. 24, Papa John’s donates $1 to support causes like the United Negro College Fund and Boys and Girls Clubs, alongside $10,000 for the Baltimore Hunger Project.
