Blake Griffin and his love for comedy

When he first came to the City of Los Angeles, he instantly developed an interest in comedy. At the time, he would try different rooms and eventually earned a job during the 2011 NBA lockout. Blake Griffin accepted the three-day internship program and wrote multiple sketches and scripts.

Alongside his NBA career, the 6x NBA All-Star continued performing at open mics and met Neal Brennan. The co-creator of Chappelle’s Show became a friend and a mentor for Griffin and helped him not fumble during his comedy debut. During the 2016 Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, the nervousness got to him, and did fumbled a few jokes. Since then, he has never looked back ever since and continued on his journey.

My whole idea is to start now, to get in and meet a bunch of people, shadow people, and learn the ins and outs so when I’m done playing, I’m not starting fresh,” said Griffin in 2018, 2 years after making his debut. Now with a Sony deal in the bag as well as his Netflix appearance coming up, it feels Griffin’s planning and hard work paid off.
