Shaquille O’Neal is known for his philanthropy. Over the years, we have witnessed multiple random acts of kindness from the 4x NBA champion. However, O’Neal does more than that to help the underprivileged. Notably, the Hall of Famer conducts his humanitarian efforts through his foundation. The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation recently held a fundraising event in Las Vegas where multiple high-profile celebrities marked their presence.

It is no secret that the Los Angeles Lakers legend is a live wire. Throughout the event, O’Neal’s antics were in full swing as he entertained everyone in attendance.

The 2000 NBA MVP the Shaquille O’Neal Foundation in 2019. Ever since, the organization has been helping the disadvantaged by various means. Notably, the organization’s annual fundraising event is a major source of revenue for their charity. Given the superstardom of O’Neal, many celebrities are usually in attendance. Recently, the organization held its third annual gala named The Event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It raised funds for The Boys and Girls Club and Communities In Schools throughout Las Vegas and Atlanta.

As expected, the event was filled with celebrities. Notably, superstars like John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Anderson Paak, and Dan+Shay performed during the event.

An auction was held as part of the fundraising event where the guests could bid for interesting lavish items.

Interestingly, Shaq did not hesitate to splash his own money at his own event. Notably, he spent $20,000 so that his mother Lucille O’Neal could sit at a table on stage for the concert of Legend, Hudson, Paak, and Dan+Shay.

Furthermore, the Hall of Famer also paid $50,000 for a luxurious vacation to Bora Bora. Overall, O’Neal spent $70,000 and played his part at the fundraiser.

The funds raised by The Event so far 

The guests also had the chance to bid for 13 interesting items.  “We raised the bar last year, and The Third Event promises to do the same,” O’Neal said according to the foundation’s website.

Things like, a chance to hang out with Shaq at his house on a Saturday, a round of golf with Hollywood superstar Mark Wahlberg, watch an Inter Miami game with soccer legend and owner David Beckham, a Super Bowl all-access pass, etc.

“I’m so grateful to our entertainers who are once again donating their time. I know they will create a night of incredible music and comedy in a true testament to the power of unity to make a difference in kids’ lives,” stated a grateful Shaq.

He also expressed his excitement to see familiar faces and new supporters during the event.

Notably, 1,500 people showed their immense support and bid on the things listed during the live-action auction as per KSNV. The event reportedly raised $6 million last year and $2.9 million in 2021, a total of $8.9 million in two short years.

The amount raised at this year’s event is yet to be released. However, it is expected to be higher than the previous year’s collection.

O’Neal is always on the lookout to help children at a disadvantage in the country.

Over the years, Shaq has donated large sums to help children through various organizations. Notably, the Miami Heat champion had a rough childhood, and he recently credited organizations like the Boys and Girls Club for helping him reach where he is today.

So he does not think twice about helping these clubs. Notably, Shaq once donated $1 million to the Boys and Girls Club of Henry County. It was for the construction of a new building for the organization. Because of this generous donation, the club was named after him.
