Among a collective of golf-loving celebrities at the American Century celebrity golf tournament, the Kelce brothers stood out for the best reasons. Jason and Travis Kelce endeared themselves to fans gathered at the tournament, even the non-Swifties and those not in Chiefs jerseys, with their interactions. Their rival, Charles Barkley wouldn’t be surprised. He’s been a friend of Jason and Travis for a long time. His connection with the older Kelce goes deeper for their Philadelphia connection. And from their first meeting, thanks to another Eagles legend, Barkley knew what a gem the NFL star is.
He phoned in on the Philadelphia show, Take Off with John Clark, from Lake Tahoe where the tournament is going on. The Kelces and Chuck are among the 91 celebs in the competition. Outside it though, Barkley’s enjoying hanging out with Jason.
Barkley told John Clark that he played golf with Jason Kelce this summer, “And it’s one of the greatest experiences of my life.” It’s how they came to hit a few tees that’s a fun story. Though he’s a local legend after starting his NBA career with the 76ers, Barkley has a residency in Arizona and comes to Philadelphia in the summer. During those stints, he always heard statements like, “Jason Kelce is a great dude.”

He got to verify it himself when “The great John Quick set me and him up to play golf.” That is Eagles’ legendary wide receiver, Mike Quick whose career went parallel with Sir Charles’ Sixers stint and they do have a longstanding friendship. Quick’s continued affiliation with the Eagles’ broadcast would probably be how he connected with Kelce and introduced him to Chuck. That’s the best thing Quick could’ve done for Barkley and it warranted a shoutout from him.

“Because when you meet somebody, and people tell you that they’re great, and they’re great, it’s awesome,” Barkley told Clark. Quick talked up the Super Bowl champ to Chuck and Kelce lived up to the hype. Jason was every bit great to Chuck and has definitely made himself a permanent golf buddy for the (potentially) retiring TNT analyst. And though Kelce is retired, he also gives Chuck faith in the Eagles.
The Chuck Guarantee strikes the Eagles
Barkley had been rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles through the past NFL season. But the ultimate winner was Jason’s brother, Travis Kelce. Jason retired soon after the Super Bowl. Barkley lost at least $100,000 betting on them but his faith is unchanging.

This Philly sports fan gives this year to the 76ers, Eagles, and Phillies. He’s so confident about the Eagles at least, he’s called a Chuck Guarantee. He’s not waiting to see who replaces Jason in the roster and already declared, “I am picking the Eagles to win the Super Bowl, GUAR-AN-TEED.” TNT’s infamous button that rains him with feathers or pucks was not there but it’s an official Chuck Guarantee.
Meanwhile, the Tahoe golf tournament is getting cutthroat. After the first round, Barkley improved from last year’s 81st position, finishing 48th. A couple of years ago he lost $100,000 again betting on himself. The tournament debutant, Jason Kelce barely got the penultimate honor at the 90th position. Travis is at 62. But they’re there for the party.
