“Big baller brand- that was me first,” were the lyrics of Shaq’s LaVar Ball diss track in 2017. O’Neal and ‘Big Baller Brand’ owner, LaVar Ball have a bitter history. In fact, the latter has fired shots at some of the greatest names in NBA history. This includes Michael Jordan. Though he was never in the NBA, Ball claimed he could have gotten the better of His Airness. Jordan had hit back, saying, “I don’t think he could beat me if I was one-legged.”

Between 1991 and 1998, only one team beat ‘MJ’ in the playoffs. It was led by Shaquille O’Neal. And both the legends do not seem to like him. In fact, Shaquille O’Neal’s feud with Ball has been reignited. What happened this time?

Two weeks ago, LaVar Ball joined VladTV for an interview. While discussing Shaq, he did not have kind words to say, owing to their history. His words found their way to Instagram. He said that O’Neal was only investing in other companies, so he was an employee. “You don’t have a brand. Because the last time I checked, Superman was a white dude with a cape. You don’t own nothing, you partner up.”

It looks like the 2000 NBA MVP did not appreciate the words. These comments were jarring considering the fact that Shaquille O’Neal is worth $400 million and Ball is worth $4 million. However, LaVar Ball clearly gives more weight to his ‘Big Baller Brand’, which he famously claimed is worth “a billion dollars”.

Of course, Shaq had to hit back at his recent comments. He left just three words in the comment section of the post. O’Neal wrote, “i’m a boss“.

Even though the Los Angeles Lakers legend has made most of his fortune through his business investments and partnerships, he has also started businesses from scratch.

Shaq’s ‘Big Chicken’ is a prime example of a business that he owns. ‘Shaquille’s’ burger place in Los Angeles that bears his name is another such example.

His comments towards Shaq seem to be coming from years of disses from the 4x NBA champion-turned-analyst.

The reason behind Shaq and LaVar Ball’s feud; Is it about principles?

With Shaq going after Ball publicly in his diss track and Ball challenging him to a match, the two have had bad blood over the years. But at the base of it is a principle that drove Shaq out of Reebok.

In 1998, Shaquille O’Neal left the sneaker brand for a unique reason. He wanted to make more affordable shoes, so O’Neal instead collaborated with Walmart. Now, even though he’s back at Reebok as the President of Basketball, his distaste for overpriced sneakers remains.

The battle of words between Big Diesel and the founder of ‘Big Baller Brand’ began when Shaq called out BBB for its luxury tag pricing for kids’ basketball shoes.

This made them go back and forth with the two involving their kids in their beef as well. It had died down a little over the years, but LaVar Ball brought this back again with his recent comments.

Nonetheless, it does not seem like Shaq has much more than three words to say to LaVar Ball. After all, O’Neal once famously said, “It’s only one BIG BALLER BRAND, and that’s me, THE SHAQ BRAND.
