In 2001, Michael Jordan sent the entire basketball fandom into a frenzy with the announcement of his return. While the legend might have proved his doubters wrong, he had his fair share of highs and challenges. Despite sustaining serious injuries, His Airness continued to illustrate his sportsmanship on the basketball court. However, that wasn’t enough for the Wizards to win the championship. Recently, an IG post showcased an old clip of Jordan’s apt reply to Charles Barkley‘s comment on his return.

What did Michael Jordan say about Barkley’s remark?

Jordan faced various injuries, including a torn meniscus in his right knee, which limited his playing time and impacted his performance during his second stint. These physical setbacks hindered his chances of success. While his injuries were clearly impacting his game, the 6x champion’s spirit wasn’t dampened. In a press conference, a journalist asked his opinion on Barkley, who previously remarked that his return is a no-win situation. His Airness candidly shared what was inspiring him. He said, “He can give his opinion. I am pretty sure everybody can give their opinions.” Jordan further added, “But if I keep listening to everyone else, tell me that I can’t do. I obviously wouldn’t be here.”

Looking back at Jordan’s performance, it’s notable how the two were both right in their own way. His Airness might not have been able to lead the $2.5 billion worth team Washington Wizards to the championships or even the playoffs, but he did show how remarkable he was even at the age of 38. He helped the Wizards get to 26- 20 averaging 25-6-5. While the Chicago Bulls‘ legend had a positive influence on the younger players, building a championship team was a formidable task.
