Cade Cunningham has been balling. After struggling to get a win for over two months, the Detroit Pistons finally broke their 28-game losing streak on December 31st against the Toronto Raptors. But even after witnessing consistently great performances from Cade Cunningham, former Houston Rockets star Chandler Parsons is not impressed by the team.

It’s hard to say anything was impressive about this historical run… If there’s one bright spot on this team, it’s Cade Cunningham. It’s the way he’s played. You see his numbers… But they’re a long ways away, and it’s hard to say anything was really impressive during this awful stretch,” said Chandler Parsons during a recent episode of Run It Back. Parsons believes that the Pistons need to add more shooting around Cade to maximize his potential.

Cade Cunningham could not hold back his smile after his first win in two months, but the Pistons are now brought back to reality as the team lost to the Houston Rockets in their first game of 2024. In the last seven games, which ended with the Pistons finally snapping their losing streak, Cunning was playing one of his best stretch of games in the NBA. He averaged over 31 points and close to 8 assists during these 7 games, and this finally paid off as they won against the Toronto Raptors.

The Pistons have been unlucky this season. The team has a young core that is sure to develop in the coming years. They should not be as bad as they currently are. Yet they are at the bottom of the barrel after losing 28 straight games.

But injuries have also played a major part in their misfortune. Young players like Isaiah Stewert, Killian Hayes, and Jalen Duren missed considerable time during this stretch. Veterans like Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks also missed time with injuries. This led to the team not building up proper chemistry, as there was a lack of continuity on the team. As the Pistons are expected to have their full roster by this month, the team will hopefully play better than they have done thus far.

One take at a time

I did not follow the traditional route to become a journalist, but my love for basketball and writing has brought me here. Seeing LeBron James? Cleveland Cavaliers make the iconic comeback from a 1-3 deficit in 2016 changed everything for a young engineering aspirant within me. Rather than simply looking at the game, I love to analyze how each player contributes to a team using BPM (Box Plus Minus) and other advanced metrics.
