There’s only one personality across the globe who can curate the biggest star-studded pickup basketball event, and that’s none other than Barack Obama himself. In 2012, Obama orchestrated an extraordinary gathering on Wednesday afternoon at New York City’s Chelsea Piers sports and entertainment complex.

Interestingly, the meetup featured not only current but also former NBA players gracing the courts, including Carmelo Anthony. Since then, Anthony has been an outspoken advocate for Obama, a sentiment he continues to express. In a recent episode of “7PM in Brooklyn” with Carmelo Anthony and the Kid Mero, he joined the team to share his insights into some Kanye West stories and more.

Meanwhile, he also touched upon an on-court encounter with the former President. As expected, he commented on the encounter: “Can’t foul the president.” The glimpse of the interview was then posted on Spotify to capture the attention of millions across the basketball world. But what captivated the audience was another revelation that Anthony made?

Before making the hilarious comment, Anthony shared a story recalling the time when he shoved Barack Obama at a White House event. Back in 2010, Anthony laced up with the former US President for a benefit hoops game organized to honor injured troops and participants of the White House’s mentorship program.

While talking about the same event, Anthony recollected, “We know how to get over a screen, we know how to use elbows, we know how to get in stuff. I was ready for that. Who’s your player count? You know what I’m saying? I want to hear the mellow, because he came out with a campaign. I’m like, y’all wait. I want to hear his friends. Let me see.” And, this led to Anthony playfully shoving Barack Obama. But thankfully for him, the Secret Service didn’t tackle him to the ground that day.

He added, “There were lots of laughs and jokes,…But we were on our best behavior. The President was in the room, and Barack’s got game! He knows what he’s doing. He is comfortable on the court.” But, this is not the first circumstance wherein Anthony has shared his memories of the 2010 event.

A special Bond feat Obama and Carmelo Anthony

Back in 2012, Anthony openly talked about supporting Obama. In an exclusive interview with ESPN, he said, “To have the support of our President is amazing….I mean, he is running a country and takes a moment to come support. That means a lot. So how could we not support him? And having his wife Michelle there was also incredible. She’s so down-to-earth and encouraging. It was cool.”

During the summer of 2012, Barack Obama and Michelle came to the Verizon Center in Washington DC to catch a glimpse of Anthony and Team USA. In addition, Michelle also attended the matchup wherein the USA secured a triumphant victory over France. Not only this, but she also gave all the players and the coach a hug, showing her love after the game. Indeed, Carmelo Anthony is on good terms with the Obama family. Stay tuned for more updates!
