The ex-NBA star Carmelo Anthony has always had a soft corner for New York City’s Syracuse. Although he played for the Syracuse University for just one season, he has admitted it to play an impactful role in his career. From offering a helping hand to the University to hopping on every chance to reconnect with his roots, Melo has been quite close to the place itself. The most recent instance was the 10x All-Star stopping at the reopening of the renovated Skan Ellus Drive-In in NY’s Skaneateles.

Notably, more than 100 people waited to witness Carmelo Anthony’s presence at the re-opening event. According to Syracuse.com, Melo showed up at the event at around 2:30 p.m. “This is our community… We are all family here. I truly feel blessed to have this love. Let’s continue to support Syracuse,” he spoke at the event.

It is worth mentioning that the ex-Syracuse player and coach, Jim Boeheim, was also present at the event. He had left the venue after the ribbon cutting ceremony, but he returned once Melo showed up at the re-opening. The people who stuck around after the ribbon cutting ceremony, waiting for Carmelo Anthony, got a chance to witness Melo having a chat with his former coach from Syracuse at the Skan Ellus Drive-In re-opening.

Skan-Ellus (now Skan Ellus) Drive-In has been a place that the Central New Yorkers have been enjoying each summer and fall since 1967. “It’s a landmark that people have loved for more than 50 years, and we don’t really want to change anything,” said one of the three partners who bought the drive-in, Vinny Lobdell Jr, as per Syracuse.com. However, he further mentioned that the place needed some key improvements for it to keep functioning. “So we’re going to improve it for the next 50 years,” he stated.

As per the reports, Lobdell and his partners, Todd Ruetsch and David Stewart, have put in approximately $500,000 into the renovations. As per the reports, the layout of the place has not undergone many changes and the menu will also remain the same in order to retain its originality. However, some of the major changes include a raised deck that will wrap around the dining room, the playground and a fenced-in dog park. “It’s always been a destination, but this will enhance that… I’m really excited about the playground. It should be a great place for families,” Ruetsch said.
