The Superman isn’t giving up yet! Dwight Howard, the towering 2020 NBA Champion, has been chasing an NBA comeback for three years now, ever since he hit free agency in 2021. Despite his relentless efforts, no team has picked him up. But according to Celtics legend Kevin Garnett, Howard might finally have a shot, thanks to a twist in Oklahoma City.

Speaking on his KG Certified podcast, Garnett and fellow NBA great Paul Pierce dove into their “Crackin’ Awards,” a ranking system for the league’s most impactful players. Garnett had an interesting observation: there was no one in OKC deserving of the award. “Nobody from OKC,” he remarked bluntly.

When another host pointed out that OKC’s rising star, Chet Holmgren, was sidelined for up to 10 weeks because of injury, Garnett didn’t hesitate. He laid it out: OKC needs a veteran big man, and Dwight Howard is the guy to call. “See, this when you go call Dwight Howard. This where you go call JaVale McGee,” Garnett said. “I’m going to get all them old hairs to bring their a** here to hold me down till these two get back.”

The 7’1” center suffered a right iliac wing fracture during a game against the Golden State Warriors. According to orthopedic trauma surgeon Brandon Hull, its impact was severe, akin to falling from an 8-foot ladder. “The height and force of the fall make it a serious injury,” Hull explained. While Holmgren’s absence leaves a glaring hole in OKC’s lineup, Howard is eager to step in.

Dwight Howard makes a pitch to OKC Thunder

Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard got candid on another episode of Garnett’s All the Smoke Productions podcast, diving straight into OKC Thunder’s glaring need for a big man. Howard didn’t hold back during the discussion, even addressing the Thunder directly with a bold statement.

“OKC, your boy is ready. What’s happenin’?” Howard declared confidently, locking eyes with the camera. “Y’all need a big, y’all need a vet. Y’all need somebody who’s gonna bring the energy… Me and AC together, Alex Caruso, championship! I’m just saying we done did it before.” Howard didn’t stop there.

He hyped himself as the perfect fit for the Thunder, saying, “Y’all just got a superstar. Y’all just need somebody who know how to play defense… Y’all need somebody that’s certified. OKC, what is y’all doing? I’ll stay at the hotel where the ghosts at. I ain’t afraid of no ghost.”

With Garnett hyping the idea, Howard doubled down on his readiness to bring elite defense and veteran energy to Oklahoma. “OKC needs someone who can anchor their defense and complement their rising stars,” Garnett noted.

It may sound like a stretch, but the concept isn’t entirely outlandish. The 2020 NBA Champion already has a connection with OKC’s Alex Caruso from their Lakers days, where they clinched the title in the bubble. Howard’s experience and high-energy personality might just be the missing piece to keep the Thunder competitive.
