Billups’ assertion that the 2004 Pistons would have overwhelmed the Warriors is firmly rooted in his faith in the Pistons’ defensive strength. While Billups praised his team’s defense, he acknowledged the unique challenge posed by Kevin Durant. “I think that team with KD would have been tough for us,” the current Trail Blazers coach admitted on the podcast 7 PM in Brooklyn.

Elaborating further, the 47-year-old noted that Durant’s presence would have significantly altered the dynamics of the game. “Back then, there wasn’t a seven-foot guy that could put the ball on the floor like him. He (Durant) is the outlier,” Billups said, acknowledging that Durant would have been difficult to deal with, even for the Pistons’ defense which would, otherwise, stifle high-scoring teams.

“KD’s a different beast, man. He’s a different dude,” Billups further added. However, despite his respect for Durant, Billups remained confident that the Pistons would have outperformed the Warriors. “The other teams they won with would have rocked them,” the former point guard noted, stressing that while the Warriors with Durant would have been a tough matchup, they would have struggled without Durant.
