The Fab Five cannot be forgotten when we talk about basketball and hip-hop. One of the five members, Chris Webber, in his autobiography, By God’s Grace, certainly tells us more about the phenomenon. Each member and their unique style of baggy shorts and exceptional game, leading Michigan to the NCAA Final twice, was classic. It was the first time any team with all five freshman starters competed in a championship game. Even Webbers’ feud with former ESPN analyst and Fab Five member Jalen Rose couldn’t do any harm to the bond these members shared. And it is in this book that the retired NBA player has opened up about his basketball journey from the very start.

Taking to his IG, Chris Webber shared a clip of himself promoting his book while cheering for Michigan Football’s latest win over Ohio State. “My Autobiography By GodsGrace is available everywhere books are sold,” he captioned it. Since the official launch in April 2024, Webber has remained occupied with the promotions of his book. Those lucky enough to get their hands on it also received an authentic signed Michigan jersey from the former NBA player.

The former Sacramento Kings star has been doing several tours and events for promotions. Back in July, Webber also visited Detroit for the same. At one of the events, his father, Mayce Webber Jr., also joined him. It was significant that his father was present, as Webber shared that the book delves deeply into his parents’ lives, particularly his father, who hailed from Mississippi.

It must have also allowed him to take a look back at particularly his incredible college years as a member of the Fab Five. Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King, Ray Jackson, and Webber dominated on the court, leading their team to back-to-back appearances in the 1992 and 1993 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship Game.

Not only just on the court, but these five also shared a strong friendship off the court as well. The Fab Five quickly became fan favorites. But one thing caused a shift. Most of their Final Four wins were vacated, which seemingly contributed to a rift between Webber and his best friend, Rose.

What is the beef between Chris Webber and Jalen Rose?

Back in 2003, Chris Webber admitted to taking a loan from booster Eddie L. Martin in 1994. This sparked a major controversy, leading Michigan to remove all the Final Four banners from the Crisler Center. The rift between Webber and Rose became more evident when the two publicly exchanged fiery remarks.

Again, Webber’s absence from the highly acclaimed ESPN series 30 for 30 raised eyebrows. The retired NBA player later explained on The Dan Patrick Show that he was approached much later than the other participants. In the meantime, he also argued how one of the members might have tried to show himself more important than the rest, which was seemingly pointed at Rose. The former ESPN analyst was also quick to hit back.

Although they had their share of disputes, these issues never damaged the bond they formed during their college years. When Webber was announced as an inductee into the NBA Hall of Fame, Rose was proud of his friend. “I love you, my brother. Congratulations. You made it to the Hall of Fame! We played on the SuperFriends together…We were 13 years old,” Rose said.

Earlier this year, all the Fab Five members reunited at Crisler Center for a game between Michigan guided by HC Howard against Ohio State. They were there to hype up their former teammate Howard. Then again in July, both Webber and Rose were spotted enjoying time together at the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy golf fundraiser and appeared closer than before. The connection and bond between the Fab Five was, and remains, iconic.
