Magic Johnson was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan. The 5x champions did not have an easy road to the NBA. He once famously said that he grew up poor, but he never had poor dreams. This was apparent following his retirement from the NBA. Magic made countless moves off the court while focusing on his businesses. This has now repaid him greatly, as he recently attained billionaire status.

The Magic Johnson Foundation has been working with the nonprofit organization ‘Feed the Children’ for nine years now. After helping the families, Magic shared his happiness on social media with pictures and a long description of the work done in Lansing.

According to Wilx 10, Magic said, “To come back home now to help families in need is very important. The economy is not doing well right now. Financially, people are hurting, so how can I, since I’ve been blessed to be in the position, come back and help some families out?

Magic Johnson gave his thanks to the various foundations that helped him in making this event successful. He was also thankful for everyone who helped out. He mentioned all this along with everything that was given out to the people in his recent social media post. “We were able to feed and assist over 1,000 families and provide chips, chicken, ham, milk, bread, stuffing, soda, water, juice, toys, books, hats, cereal, protein bars, scarfs, backpacks, hygiene products, sweatshirts, turkeys, chicken broth, and canned goods,” Johnson wrote in his post

Magic’s ‘Holiday Hope’ event was started in 2014 with the goal of lightening the burden on struggling families. Magic also used this opportunity to visit his friends and family at home.

Johnson is currently valued at 1.2 billion dollars. The majority of his wealth comes from his ownership of sports teams. Although he spent over a decade playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, he does not have a stake in any NBA teams. But Magic has an ownership stake in three other teams in Los Angeles. He is the owner of the LA Dodgers, LA Sparks, and LA FC. He also recently invested in the NFL’s Washington Commanders.

This, along with various other businesses, gave him the title of the 4th athlete to reach the billionaire dollar mark. It’s safe to say that Magic has done well for himself, and he never fails to give back to the community.

I did not follow the traditional route to become a journalist, but my love for basketball and writing has brought me here. Seeing LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers make the iconic comeback from a 1-3 deficit in 2016 changed everything for a young engineering aspirant within me. Rather than simply looking at the game, I love to analyze how each player contributes to a team using BPM (Box Plus Minus) and other advanced metrics.
