You know how some people just seem to have it all figured out? Grant Hill is one of those rare few. A basketball legend, a successful businessman, and a man who never forgets what truly matters – family. And just as he’s about to take on a major moment at his alma mater, he pauses to celebrate someone very special in his life. And boy oh boy! What a post it was.
Before stepping onto the stage at Duke University this weekend, Grant Hill took to social media to honor his wife, Tamia Hill, on her 50th birthday. He posted a stunning photo of Tamia posing confidently in front of the camera. Grant Hill wrote,
“🎉 Happy 50th to my gorgeous wife @realtamiaworld! 🎉 They say 50 is the new 30 — so technically, you’re just 30 again, right?😉🤣 Age is just a number, but your beauty and humor are timeless. Love you forever! ❤️🎂😘”

That post? It’s a reminder that no matter how big your stage gets, love and laughter at home are what keep you grounded. Grant Hill turned the 50th birthday post into a matter of laughter for the couple. Clearly, in a stunt to make Tamia feel young and win her heart on her Birthday! This couple has been together since 1999, and Grant made sure to wish her this milestone in a cheerful way.
Tamia, a Grammy-nominated Canadian singer, is a force in her own right. Together, she and Grant Hill form what many call a true power couple. Grant Hill’s business empire is nothing short of impressive – from owning part of the Atlanta Hawks to investing in real estate and international soccer. With a net worth of around $250 million, it’s easy to see why his off-the-court game might be just as legendary as his on-court days.

As fans were soaking in his sweet tribute to Tamia, another big moment awaited Grant Hill. Returning to where it all began. This weekend, he’s heading back to Duke University, where he graduated in 1994 with a double major in history and political science. He’s been invited to give the commencement speech for the Class of 2025 — and not just any speech. This one marks 100 years since Duke’s very first graduating class, and it caps off the university’s Centennial celebration!
Grant Hill’s homecoming
Duke University couldn’t have picked a better voice for this milestone moment. “He is an extraordinary leader who has excelled in athletics, broadcasting, and business,” said Duke President Vincent E. Price. “I’m confident that his perspectives and insights will inspire and motivate our graduates.” Hill’s life reflects what Duke stands for – excellence, service, and determination.

His basketball career at Duke was the stuff of legend. Playing under Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski, Grant Hill was part of a golden era. “Grant made the extraordinary look effortless,” Krzyzewski once said. “He played with skill, class, and heart.” No wonder his No. 33 jersey now hangs in the rafters at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
But Grant Hill’s story didn’t end when he left Duke. After a brutal ankle injury in the NBA and a near-fatal MRSA infection, many wrote him off. “There were moments I thought I might not play again,” Hill said in an earlier interview. “But I wasn’t going to quit.” That attitude turned around a 19-year career, and later made him succeed in a business that most could only dream of.
As a co-owner of the Atlanta Hawks and builder of the 2024 U.S. Olympic basketball team, Grant Hill hasn’t slowed down one bit. And now, he returns to Durham not just as an alum, but as a symbol of everything Duke hopes its students will become. “This is more than a speech,” Grant Hill said recently. “It’s a chance to give back to the place that gave me so much.”
