Once again the NBA officiating is under fire. Joel Embiid has raised his doubts on the Game 2 loss against the New York Knicks. The Philadelphia 76ers are currently trailing 0-2 in their first-round NBA playoff series. 76ers head coach Nick Nurse also raised concerns on the late-game officiating. As per the NBA report, Philadelphia’s Tyrese Maxey was fouled twice during the last-minute play which they allege wasn’t called. When seen closely, that is, perhaps, when the dominos started falling for the 76ers, and Embiid ensured to mention it during his post-game conference.

Following that, however, numerous have come forward to express their opinion on it. Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas also expressed his take on the matter giving a harsh reality check. Expressing his doubts on Embiid’s claim, Arenas shared, “Unless it’s like one-in-one and they’re fouling, he’s not going to get free throws. Kyle Lowry is going to try to beat and get his free throws, but that’s once the penalty starts. So for the most part, it’s just you and [Tyrese] Maxey and how many fouls do you think you’re gonna get IN THE PLAYOFFS? You sittin’ here thinkin’ you about to pull 20 fouls in a playoff game? Get out of here.”

Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid are positive about their chances in the games ahead

During the post-game conference, the Process revealed that Coach Nurse and his teammates attempted to call a timeout but were ignored. Furthermore, Embiid called out the officiating to be “f*****g unacceptable” to the reporters during the interview.

As mentioned earlier, the report acknowledged that both times Maxey was fouled. However, the MIP had a different opinion. While he seemed to agree with the complaints raised by the team, Maxey is more focused on the game ahead of him. During his appearance on Inside The NBA, he shared, “It is what it is. It happened. You gotta let it go.”

While Embiid was indeed seemingly frustrated by how things went down, he is also confident about Game 3. “We should be 2-0. We’re good. We’re going to win this series,” Embiid said. However, Embiid and Maxey were the only ones to score more than 10 points. The 76ers would need a different strategy if they were to win against the Knicks. What is your take on this?
