‘The Last Dance’ is a thrilling documentary that chronicles MJ’s trajectory and the Chicago Bulls’. In the series, MJ describes how Kenny Lattimore, an American R&B singer’s music has influenced him. And that led Lattimore’s fame to skyrocket.

A scene before Game 1 of the 1998 NBA finals managed to grab every fan’s attention. That is the scene where MJ is seen nodding his head rhythmically to a song. When asked about what he was listening to, Jordan enthusiastically replied, “Kenny Lattimore. Brand new.” 

The shot of him listening to an unreleased track of the singer instantly became an Internet sensation. People went into a frenzy to find out more about the singer.

In a conversation with journalist Jamele Hill, Lattimore shared how a simple gesture of MJ listening to his songs made a huge impact. He also talked about his encounter with Charles Barkley, MJ’s infamous rival.

Barkley alluded for the singer to how MJ has “singlehandedly marketed [Lattimore’s music] throughout the NBA”. Lattimore knew MJ was his fan, but it was Barkley who revealed how the NBA legend has promoted his music.

Lattimore had been grateful to MJ and his fans. But when he saw the series, he fully understood how much the player was deeply influenced by his music.
