Sunday was a big night in the Windy City. The Chicago Blackhawks honored one of the city’s greatest athletes and NHL icon, Chris Chelios, at a ceremony held in the United Center. That arena, which is home to the Chicago Bulls as well, has witnessed some of the greatest athletes in American history. While Michael Jordan couldn’t be there in person, another Chicago icon, Dennis Rodman, was present at his old stomping ground. He later took to his official Instagram account, posting a clip from the ceremony featuring Chelios.

“Congratulations to my good friend Chris Chelios on No.7 retired by the Blackhawks #chicago,” read the caption of the video clip shared by The Worm. He also added a picture of him holding a Blackhawks jersey in the post. An ice hockey defenseman and a rebounding forward might seem like an unlikely pair. Yet, these two Chicago sports legends share a surprising and enduring friendship.

This was evident from Rodman’s video of Chris. The Blackhawks star was seen praising the 5x NBA champion for his constant support. “We talk about the Bulls, lastly. There was another element that came in which gave this team, I’d just say, a little more character on the court and off the court also. And he is here to support me today also. His name is Dennis Rodman. Thank you, Dennis.” He further encouraged the crowd’s enthusiasm for Dennis’ mention, stating, “They still love you, Dennis.”

While the duo’s friendship may seem to stem from their time in Chicago in the 90s, the foundation of their friendship has another angle to it apart from the shared professional experiences. In a 2023 interview, Chelios revealed that they grew up in the same areas in both Chicago and San Diego. The mutual respect witnessed between the two at the event held on Sunday further shows the depth of their friendship.
