Magic Johnson the basketball legend and thriving entrepreneur owns several sports teams, building an astounding total net worth of $12.51 billion through his attachment to the Los Angeles Sparks, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles FC, and Washington Commanders.

Johnson has recently come out to showcase a treasure that he holds very close to his heart, an experience that is unique and irreplaceable in his distinguished lineage. There is something about setting foot on the field that goes beyond the riches and power possessed by the team owner.

During an interview, Magic Johnson admitted though he loves owning teams, there is something else that he will never forget, the excitement of playing the game.

The Fine Line Between Ownership and Play: Johnson’s Confession

Magic Johnson’s accomplishments on this front are remarkable; he has ownership stakes in some of the largest franchisors in sports. However, there is a major difference between having many teams and sweating it out in a game, to taste the electrifying atmosphere of sports competition.

Those are the things I miss. More than the game,” Magic explained when talking about his memories. He talked about the joyful moments, camaraderie in the locker room, excitement while making game-winning plays and the crowd roaring.

And as per many other experiences Magic said, there are some that cannot be substituted by the thrill of having one’s own team.

Many athlete-turned-owners share Johnson’s passion for the game and the inexplicable sense of connection experienced by players. It is a sign that beneath the boardroom and the billions, there lies an original core of sports that is in the field where sweat, passion, and persistence make unforgettable moments.

Billion-Dollar Franchises vs. The Invaluable Experience

The connection of Magic Johnson to the game was further confirmed by his confession about the lack of being a player. The author also noted that even the excitement of hanging out with stars like Jack Nicholson, as evident in a YouTube piece titled “Magic Johnson Talks partying with Jack Nicholson”, could not match the rush of putting on the uniform and playing the game.

Johnson was a huge economic success; however, he remained simple and loved this sport in earnest. It is the epitome of sports entrepreneurship he owns the LA Sparks, LA Dodgers, LA FC, and Washington Commanders. It is evident that his heart still longs for some special charms of playing on the field.
