Charles Barkley has always loved hockey. So much so that he once started watching an NHL playoff game while he was working on the Inside the NBA show. Barkly has always gone on as a commentator for the NHL on TNT and talked about his love for the sport. He knows that the teams are only focused on winning the Stanley Cup and nothing else.

A few months ago, Barkley was at the NHL finals. During this, he met one of the best players on the Vegas Golden Knights but was humbled during the process. Months later, an American commentator reveals how Charles Barkley is perceived by NHL media members.

Do NHL commentators like Charles Barkley?

In a recent episode of the podcast ‘Awful Announcing‘, Brandon Contes was joined by Kenny Albert. Albert was asked by Brandon how the NFL commentators feel when Barkley comes on their show.

This led to Albert explaining that they always love having Charles Barkley on their program. Barkly was also in two of the final games for the Stanley Cup. Albert also revealed that after the game, Barkley traveled with them to the hotel where they were staying. Barkley has followed the sport for a long time now. He used to go to games when he was playing for the Phoenix Suns and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Just a month ago, all the TNT commentators participated in a seminar in Atlanta. Even then, Barkley was with the NHL commentators. Albert is looking forward to more opportunities to have segments with Barkley.

Albert said, “And he’s excited about the upcoming season. So we certainly welcome him tagging along, visiting us, attending hockey games, whatever he’d like.” Albert would be happy to have Barkley on the show. But Barkley won’t leave Shaquille O’Neal and Inside the NBA crew to work for TNT’s NHL team.

Charles Barkley would be a great addition to the NHL, even though he might not have the same recognition that he has with the NBA fan base.

Barkley was humbled by the Stanley Cup winner

As mentioned earlier, Barkley went for two games during the Stanley Cup finals. During a sideline interview, Barkley revealed an instance where he met one of the players for the Knights, but was soon made to realize his position. Barkley said that while he was at the hotel, he ran into Jack Eichel of the Vegas Golden Knights. He told him how big of a fan he is of the young talent.

Barkley then said, “I think he had zero idea who I was… He looked at me like, ‘Who the hell are you?’“

Maybe Barkley has some time before he becomes a household name in the NHL as well. But with the opportunity arising for him to be part of commentary for the NHL, it’s not too far away before Jack Eichel realizes who Barkley is.
