Rashad McCants says Russell Westbrook has a better option than the Nuggets. After parting ways with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Westbrick was sent to the Utah Jazz. As per ESPN, the Utah Jazz is anticipated to negotiate a buyout of Westbrook’s contract, where he would be able to sign a deal with the Nuggets. Despite this great opportunity, former NBA player McCants suggested an ultimate “legacy move” that would see him return to his former team.

There is a chance that the Nuggets could be Westbrook’s last stint in the NBA. This is probably the reason why McCants wanted Westbrook to bring his leadership and competitive edge as a veteran to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a final stint.

He wants Westbrook to take up a secondary role to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. As McCants explained on Gils’s Arena, Bro, come off the bench for Shai, that’s the move, legacy move. Retire there, help them get back to the spot…who’s the backup in OKC that’s nice…that’ll be a nice move.” McCants pointed out how Westbrook can contribute to the team in a meaningful way.

There’s also a conversation on whether Westbrook is a good fit for the Denver Nuggets, his potential destination. Many seemed to be in favor of this decision. He can bring in more rebounding and pace when the starters aren’t on the floor, however, some are against it with concerns about his shooting that can impact the Nuggets. ESPN writer Zach Lowe on The Lowe Podcast is also among the previous list of people.

He believes that the Nuggets are interested in Westbrook because of his reputation. Reminding the 9 x NBA All-Star’s playoffs run with the Clippers, Lowe suggested that might end up “hurting” the Nuggets.

While there were not many from Gil’s Arena Crew urging Westbrook to join OKC, the deal was once in the rumors earlier this year.

The power stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were rumored to join Oklahoma Thunder

Early in January 2024, a report by Adrian Wojnarowski mentioned the chances of the 3x NBA Assist leader and Kevin Durant to return to the OKC. The two had an incredible run leading the team to the Western Conference Finals in 2011 before making it to the 2012 NBA Finals. The team also made it to the Western Conference Finals in 2014 and 2016.

While Durant doesn’t seem likely to return to Oklahoma City Thunder, it might be impactful if Westbrook were to return. He is undeniably the franchise legend who averaged a triple-double during each of his three final seasons with the Thunders.

“I love being here. I’m excited about the season. Obviously, with a lot of new changes, and I’m excited,” Westbrook said when he signed a 5-year deal with the team in 2017. After playing 11 seasons with the team, Westbrook was traded to the Houston Rockets.

Despite the veteran being on a different team, the Thunder fans have love and appreciation for the 35-year-old. As of now, the rumors suggest Westbrook is likely to join the Nuggets.
